Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji celebrated with Gurbani Kirtan recital at Punjab Raj Bhavan

CHANDIGARH, NOVEMBER 10: With great devotion and enthusiasm, the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated at Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh.

On the occasion, the Gurbani kirtan was recited by Ragi Jatha comprising of Dr. Arshpreet Singh Rhythm, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Prof Parmjit Singh, Bhai Kunwar Sahib Singh, Bhai Amrit Pal Singh and Bhai Samarjeet Singh of Punjabi University Patiala. The atmosphere was replete with moments of spiritual epiphany.

Extending warm greetings to the devotees on the Parkash Purab, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh threw light on life and teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji has shown the way to attain supreme knowledge along with fulfilling the responsibilities of household life. He broke the myth that one has to leave the family to attain salvation. Through his own life Guru Ji’s presented an example of the confluence of hard work and bairag to the people.

Shri Purohit elaborated on the universal relevance of teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for leading a peaceful and spiritual life. Underlining the eternal relevance of His teachings, he said that teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji promoted equality among people regardless of caste, gender and creed. He said that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji dawned upon the earth over five and half centuries ago but His teachings are as relevant today as were then; their significance is beyond the limits of time and geography.

The Governor said that the history of Punjab is replete with the sacrifices made by the great Gurus which are a constant source of inspiration to all of us. “Let us all foward the message of brotherhood and peace as is the principle of Guru Nanak Dev Ji”, said the Governor.

Terming himself to be fortunate to get an opportunity to serve the land of Gurus, Shri Purohit sought the blessings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for the welfare of State of Punjab. Shri Purohit called upon the people to follow the steps of the great Guru and adhere to the path of truth and service of humanity.

Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Bhagwant Mann paid reverence to Sri Guru Granth Sahib and spoke on the spiritual and pious teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The Gurbani Kirtan was followed by langar. Governor and Chief Minister, Punjab along with the devotees partook in the langar.
