“POSHAN Abhiyaan” is not a programme but a Jan Andolan, and to promote this , the month of September is being celebrated as Rashtriya POSHAN Maah across the country.
1 September,2019. Chandigarh. “POSHAN Abhiyaan” was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi ji at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018. The main objectives of this Abhiyaan are to attain proper nutritional status among children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in a timely manner; reduce stunting, under nutrition, and anaemia among young children, women, and adolescent girls; and lowering low birth weight by at least 2% per annum.

On the 1st Day of POSHAN Maah , 1st September 2019 , UT Chandigarh has enthusiastically carried out Prabhat Pheris in Palsora, Dhanas and Mauli Colony with primary focus on migratory population and peripheral areas of the city to generate awareness about Nutrition and Health. To ensure Har Ghar Poshan Vyavyhar , Slogans/messages and quotes were used during Prabhat Pheris .
To boost the morale of the field functionaries , Sh B.L. Sharma , Secretary Social Welfare and Ms Navjot Kaur, Director Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration visited Anganwadi Center of Palsora to celebrate Community based Annaprashan Diwas with aim to promote Complementary Feeding. At the event, Secretary Social Welfare himself fed “home made poshtik cerelac” to small kids who just completed 6 months . Parents of the kids were very happy and encouraged .
During the event, Secretary, Social Welfare explained the importance of Nutritious and Healthy Food during first 1000 days of the Child and encouraged all the participants to adopt healthy way of life. He also briefed the participant about the importance of breast feeding and complementary feeding .
This year, the main focus during POSHAN Maah will be on the themes of “First 1000 days of Child, Anaemia, Diarrhoea, Hand Washing & Sanitation and Poshtik Aahar . Special emphasis will be to promote exclusively breastfeeding, Complementary Feeding, Antenatal and Postnatal Care, Dietary Diversity of Mothers & Children, Anaemia Prevention, Sanitation and Hygiene, Diarrhoea Management to combat the challenge of malnutrition in convergence with all the line departments.
