Fitment of Speed Governors.

Chandigarh, 21st December, 2016: The Administrator, Union Territory Chandigarh, in exercise of powers conferred by rule 118 of the central motor vehicle rules, 1989 is pleased to notify the fitment of Speed Governors (Speed Controlling Device) conforming to the Standard AIS:018 as amended from time to time in respect of the following vehicles:-
1. The Transport Vehicles (Medium/Heavy; goods or passenger) registered prior to 31.07.2016 which are not already fitted with a Speed Governor (Speed limiting device or speed limiting function), shall be equipped of fitted by the operators of those vehicles on or before 31.12.2016 with a Speed Governor (Speed limiting device or speed limiting function) having a maximum pre-set speed of 80 kmph or such lower speed limit, as may be specified by the Chandigarh Administration, from time to time, conforming to the Standard AIS:018/2001, as amended from time to time.
2. The categories of transport vehicles carrying hazardous goods and those transport vehicles which are dumpers, tankers or school buses/Local Chandigarh Transport vehicles which are dumpers, tankers or school buses/Local Chandigarh Transport Undertaking Buses registered prior to 31.07.2016 and not already fitted with a Speed Governor (Speed limiting device or speed limiting function) shall be equipped or fitted by 31.12.2016 by the operators of those vehicles, with a Speed Governor (speed limiting device or speed limiting function) having maximum pre- set speed of 60 kmph or such lower speed limit as may be specified by the Chandigarh Administration conforming to the Standard AIS:018/2001 as amended from time to time.
