Chandigarh, December 15- Leading by example and setting the trend for cashless transactions, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, today made use of his mobile phone and made online payment for the tea he took at a roadside shop in Karnal.
After attending various programmes in Karnal, the Chief Minister went to a shop near the bus-stand and placed an order for tea. After taking tea, he took out his mobile phone and transferred the money equivalent to the charges to the shopkeeper from his PTM account.
Making sure that the payment has been made, he enquired from the shopkeeper if he had received the amount to which the latter replied in the affirmative.
When the shopkeeper told the Chief Minister that consumers visiting his shop were being offered the facility of making payment through PTM or Swipe machine, the latter asked him to educate other shopkeepers also on making online transactions as this system of making payment was quite easy to make.
Interacting with other consumers present at the shop, the Chief Minister asked them to take benefit of cashless transactions by using the debit card, e-wallet, PTM and other modes of e-payment. Asked about the impact of demonetisation of high currency notes, Mr Rambihari of Samastipur, Bihar, told the Chief Minister that he was happy with the government decision, and is comfortable with the present arrangement.
OSD to the Chief Minister, Mr Amrinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Mr Mandeep Singh Brar, and Superintendent of Police, Mr Pankaj Nain, were also present on this occasion.
