CHANDIGARH, Nov 26—The President, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, will lay the foundation stone of the Rs 97.35 crore Krishna Circuit in Kurukshetra to give a massive face-lift to Kurukshetra and the places associated with Mahabharata. The project will be a step forward in projecting the divine land of Kurukshetra on the global tourist map.
Disclosing this at a press conference in New Delhi today, the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, said that the Central Government had released the first installment, 20 per cent of the amount, for the project.
The development of Kurukshetra has been approved as Krishna Circuit identified under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. A tourist circuit with theme and sites related to Lord Krishna’s life events, including Mahabharata, has been identified in Kurukshetra region. The sites for development have been identified and shortlisted after rigorous research and series of discussions with state tourism nodal agencies and regional competent agencies.
