Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee monitored Ambient Air Quality and noise levels at 3 different locations in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, 31st October, 2016: Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee monitored Ambient Air Quality and noise levels at 3 different locations in Chandigarh on 24.10.2016 a week before Diwali and on 30.10.2016 on Diwali Day as per the guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi. The highlights of the analysis are as below: –

Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) levels at all the locations are within the permissible limits. Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) levels at all the locations are within permissible limits. RSPM Levels are higher in all the locations as compared to last year. The higher figure of RSPM was also due to dry weather persisting in the region and its value was high in the year 2013 & 2014 also. Maximum Air pollution was found in Sector 29 and minimum Air Pollution was found in Sector 17 Chandigarh. Maximum Noise Pollution was found in Sector 22 between 9 PM – 10 PM and Minimum Noise Pollution was found in Sector 17 between 8 PM – 9 PM.
Almost similar levels in comparison to the previous year were found in Sector 22 and Sector 17 between 8 PM to 10 PM. However, in sector 29 lower level of noise was found in comparison to last year.
