Crackdown on illegal sex determination tests, a joint team of Haryana

Chandigarh, Sep 12 – In a crackdown on illegal sex determination tests, a joint team of Haryana Health Department, Jhajjar and Gurgaon, with the assistance of Police, have nabbed two persons, including a doctor practising in a private hospital at Gurgaon and a woman agent for allegedly conducting sex determination tests. Also, Rs 30,000 have been recovered from them.
While stating this today, Nodal Officer (PNDT) and Deputy Civil Surgeon, Jhajjar, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, said that the joint team had sent a decoy patient to the woman agent, who was a resident of Bahadurgarh, for getting the test conducted.
He said that the agent, who had been under suspicion for some time, took the decoy patient to a private hospital in Gurgaon, where her ultrasound was conducted. The accused doctor and agent then told the patient that she was expecting a girl and gave her an MTP kit. The joint team then raided the hospital and caught both the accused red-handed and recovered Rs 25,000 from the doctor and Rs 5,000 from the agent. The numbers on these notes matched the ones given by the decoy patient as payment for the test.
A case was registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.
Lauding the Health Department for the steps being taken to improve sex ratio, Deputy Commissioner, Jhajjar, Mr. R.C. Bidhan, said that violations of the PCPNDT Act would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against the violators.
