Leprosy Case Detetction Campaign will be launched in District Panipat from September 5 to 18.

Chandigarh , September 3 – A Leprosy Case Detetction Campaign will be launched in District Panipat from September 5 to 18 to make Panipat free from leprosy and skin disease.
While stating this today, Haryana Health Minister Mr Anil Vij said that
Panipat District has been included in 163 such Districts of the country where the number of leprosy patients was more than one per 10,000 persons during last three years. At present the number of leprosy patients in Panipat District is less than one per 10,000. But during last three years this number was more than one. Therefore, District Panipat was included in the selected districts in the country. He said that the Government wanted to make the State free from leprosy.
He said that during the campaign Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), accompanied by a male volunteer would go from door to door for checkup of individuals and make them conscious of the leprosy. Therefore, 855 teams have been constituted and each team has two workers to diagnose 12 lakh population in Panipat District where all those living in rural areas and urban slums would be diagnosed. He said that all medical practitioners, Aaganwadi workers and ASHAs have been trained for the success of the campaign. The cooperation of members and officers of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Councilors of Urban Wards has been sought. Those detected suffering from leprosy, would be treated free of cost with multi drug therapy. Also, those residing with such patients would also be given Rifampisin tablets.
