Drive by Health Department to screen the population for Non Communicable Diseases continues

Chandigarh, 3rd September, 2016: Chandigarh Health Department organized a free Health cum screening Camp at Village Behlana today under the leadership of Dr. Vanita Gupta, Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration. This was the seventh Health Camp in continuation of previous six Health Camps held at Daddu Majra, Maulijagran, Dhanas, Ramdarbar, Public Health Dispensary, Sector 25 and Civil Dispensary, Sector 8, Chandigarh.

The optimum health care services were provided to people in the Health Camp in the field of Medicine, ENT, Skin, Eye and Gynae OPDs by specialists and various Laboratory services along with provision of checking of salt samples for iodine content and food samples for adulteration were also done.

Around 610 patients were examined at the camp and approx 260 people were examined at Medical OPD and were given treatment accordingly. 157 people were examined by Eye specialist at the venue out of which 11 were diagnosed for Cataract.
Gynaecologists screened approx. 62 females above 30 yrs. for Breast and Cervical Cancers, out of these one patient was suspected for Cervical Cancer. Total 80 people were examined by ENT specialist and 104 people were examined for various skin diseases by dermatologist.
Nursing students from School of Nursing, GMSH-16, conducted risk profiling of people > 30yrs. And out of 243 patients above 30 the age of years, 62 were found to be hypertensive and 98 were overweight and 39 were found to be obese. Approx. 50 people were tested for HIV and VDRL. Around 100 people screened for Diabetes and 45 were found to be suspected for diabetes.
Counselling was also given in small groups to the community regarding adoption of healthy lifestyle like physical activity weight management, and early detection, signs and symptoms, timely referral and management of Non communicable diseases by Dietician. An informative and educative exhibition on HIV/ AIDS, Iodine Deficiency Disorders and Leprosy was organized to generate awareness amongst visitors. In order to have Aadhaar linkage of 0-5 children with Immunization, people were motivated for getting their children enrolled for the same. The facility of Aadaar enrolment is available at local Aanganwadi Centre.
