Celebration of Librarians’ Day.
Chandigarh, August 11th, 2016: T S Central State Library,Chandigarh celebrated Librarians’ Day to commemorate birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S R Ranganathan, the father of library science by organizing two day outreach programme at Govt Schools of Chandigarh Administration in an endeavor to promote libraries and reading culture. The programme was today inaugurated by Sh Jitender Yadav, IAS, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration at GMSSS sec 16, Chandigarh. The School students were given an orientation through the presentation on the library and were also communicated about the advantages of reading. Librarian Anju Gupta urged students to use libraries and read books extensively for their self-growth. She also requested Principal to bring students to the library on regular basis. Sh. Jitender Yadav stressed upon the need to do more of such activities so that masses are being sensitized of libraries and need to read books. The Director Higher Education further shared his views that the health and knowledge are the two things which remain with the human being and we may acquire knowledge from books, personal experiences and other informational sources.
By conducting such programmes library hopes that more and more persons will be benefited from books by joining the library and will eventually help in the development of healthier and superior society.The Valedictory function will be held tomorrow in GMSSS 19 in addition to programme at GMSSS of sectors 18 and 20.
