Chandigarh, August 1—Cracking down on the illegal practice of sex determination, the Ambala Police today nabbed five persons, including a woman, from Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district of Punjab.
Stating this here today, Civil Surgeon, Dr. Vinod Gupta, said that those arrested included two persons belonging to Ambala Cantt. and three belonging to Ludhiana in Punjab. Those arrested include Ashok Kumar, Virender, Rinkal, Shamsher Singh and Ravinder Pal Kaur. Efforts are on to nab Dr Sandeep Kaur and another accused Inderjit Singh who are still at large.
The police got the information that Ashok Kumar of Green Park, Ambala Cantt, and Virender Singh of Ashok Nagar, Ambala Cantt, took women to Punjab for getting the sex determination test done for Rs 25,000. Acting on this information, a team of the Health Department, assisted by the police, sent a decoy patient who contacted Ashok Kumar and Virender Singh.
The decoy patient was asked to reach Kalka Chowk at 5pm, from where she was taken to Ludhiana, where they met the other accused Rinkal, Shamsher Singh and Ravinder Pal. The accused took the decoy patient to Amanpreet Hospital at Sultanpur Lodhi where sex determination test was conducted by Dr Sandeep Kaur.
A case has been registered against the accused at Sultanpur Lodhi police station under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT)
