    Chandigarh, December 4, 2015:- The workshop-cum- state action plan meeting was hosted
    by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, U.T, Chandigarh at Ginger Hotel,
    Ind Area Phase-1, Chandigarh. Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secretary cum Health
    Secretary U.T., Chandigarh inaugurated the workshop on 2

    aimed to review the participating states and to find a strategy to eliminate malaria from low
    endemic states. The speakers from different states and from PGI spoke on different ways to
    eliminate malaria from the region in phases. Relation on climate included variation in
    temperature, rainfall, direction of wind on incidence of malaria was also discussed. The role
    of private sectors for early diagnosis and prompt treatment (EDPT) of malaria cases was
    advocated by Dr. Sandeep Dhawan- President IMA, Chandigarh.
    The workshop concluded today with the observations that malaria can be eradicated from
    India in stages with more emphasis on low endemic states (API <1) initially with better
    surveillance, with more operational research and with involvement of private sectors and
    medical colleges.
    The state programme officers of the states i.e. Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarkhand,
    Goa, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh participated in the meeting along with
    their regional directors. The representatives from Directorate of NVBDCP GOI under the
    guidance of Dr. G.S.Sonal, Addl Director also took part in the workshop.
