Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki released a book titled ‘Historical Geography of Colonial Punjab
Chandigarh, September 28 – Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr. Shrikant Walgad has urged the representatives of different Political Parties to extend full cooperation in making the entire Electoral Rolls clean and correct during Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls 2016.
Mr. Walgad who was presiding over a meeting with the representatives of different Political Parties here today said that special summary revision of electoral rolls of all the 90 Assembly constituencies in the State will be done by taking January 1, 2016 as the qualifying date.
He said that the draft electoral rolls would be published on October 15, 2015. The period for filing of claims and objections would be from October 15 to November 13, 2015. Reading of relevant part or section of Photo Electoral Rolls in Gram Sabha or Local Bodies and RWA meeting etc and verification of names would be done on October 20 and 28, 2015. He said that Special campaign will be launched on October 25 and November 8, 2015 for receiving claims and objections. Staff will be available on these dates at all the polling stations throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect claims and objections. Disposal of claims and objections would take place by December 7 whereas updation of database, merging of photographs, updating the Control Tables and preparation and printing of supplementary list would be done by December 24, 2015. Final publication of electoral rolls would take place on January 11, 2016.
Mr. Walgad also asked the representatives of Political Parties to collect two copies (one CD and one printed) from the District Election Officers free of cost and go through the same for helping the process of preparing clean, correct and up-to-date rolls. If any shortcoming comes into their notice, the same should be brought to the notice of concerned Electoral Registration Officer for carrying out necessary corrections with intimation to the office of Chief Electoral Officer.
The representatives have also been asked to ensure that women electors and youth voters are enrolled and included in the electoral rolls. Apart from this, they would also make sure that Booth Level Agents at every polling station are appointed as per instructions of Election Commission of India.
Chandigarh, September 28 – Haryana Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki released a book titled ‘Historical Geography of Colonial Punjab: 1849-1947’ written by Dr. D.S. Tiwana, former senior faculty of the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, at Raj Bhawan here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that this book is a unique volume which contains historical description of Geography. The book is a reflection of thoughts and knowledge of the author and would prove to be a light-house to the readers, he added.
Introducing the book, Dr. Tiwana said that the book is a research work based on intensive field work conducted both in India and Pakistan. It makes an in-depth analysis in finest details of the economy, society, demography, environment and above all landscape transformation during the colonial rule over Punjab.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Dr. N.S. Tiwana, Former Public Works Minister, Punjab, Mr. Harmel Singh Toara, Former Mayor, Chandigarh, Mr. Surinder Singh and Prof. Gopal Krishan, Prof. H.S. Mavi and Dr. G.S. Mahi.
