Chandigarh, September 27 – Haryana Police has arrested five men and two women accused of being involved in conddetermination tests of pregnant women in Yamunanagar. Those arrested have been identified as Jasbir, resident of Ramgarh (Mullana), Gurmeet Singh, resident of Salempur, Minto, resident of Radauri, Ajit, resident of district Saharanpur and Om Singh, resident of Uttar Pradesh.
While stating this, a spokesman of the Police Department said that the Health Department had been receiving complaints for several days that some people were involved in conducting sex-determination tests of pregnant women.
He said that taking serious note of the matter, a team was formed under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police. The team included Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Joginder Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Vijay Dahiya, Tehsildar of Jagadhri, Darshan Ku District Child Welfare Officer, Manisha Khanna. A decoy patient was deployed in order to nab the culprits.
The spokesman added that of those arrested, Jasbir, Gurmeet and two women have been sent to jail and Minto has been remanded to police custody. During investigation, Minto revealed that another accused Ajit used to conduct the sex determination test. He was later arrested on September 22, 2015, and remanded to police custody. Ajit revealed during investigation that he used to conduct the test at his home and had bought an ultrasound machine, recovered from him by the police, from Alim of Kotla and Om Singh of Uttar Pradesh, who had bought this machine from Ranbir of Rohilla, Delhi. Om Singh was then arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody. “Investigations are on and soon the other accused Alim and Ranbir will also be arrested,” he added
