3-day mock MUN conference begins today
CHANDIGARH: The sixth edition of the three-day, ‘Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh Model United Nations Conference’ will begin on Friday.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘strength in solidarity’. As many as 52 schools, including some well-known schools, three from abroad, one each from Dubai, Pakistan and US, will participate.
“This year’s MUN will be dedicated to former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam,” said RK Saboo, chairman of the Chandigarh centre of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
The conference is aimed at providing participants with ideal opportunity to hone their skills in the realm of current events, international relations and diplomacy through role playing as diplomats investigating, debating and deliberating over and finding solutions for international problems.
During this session of the BVCMUN, the agendas to be discussed by the committees include United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Security Council, United Nations Economic and Social Council, United Nations Convention Against Corruption and International Criminal Court.
Bhavan Vidyalaya is the first school in Chandigarh that started the Model United Nations (MUN) in 2010 in the present form of schools participating from all over the country and even abroad. The very first MUN (local) was done by the school in 1998.
UT adviser Vijay Kumar Dev will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony on Friday.
The conference will conclude on August 2.
