Smart City Cards launched.

 
 
Chandigarh, 12th December 2017 :- Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T , Chandigarh today launched the Chandigarh Smart city cards created by Chandigarh Administration in association with the Bank of India. The occasion was graced by the solemn presence of Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament,  Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary, Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Smt. Asha Jaiswal, Hon’ble Mayor, Sh. S K Swain, General Manager, Bank of India,Sh. A.K Arora, General Manager, Bank of India along with senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and Bank of India. 
 
Addressing the gathering Sh. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner welcomed all the dignitaries and expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards everyone who made this possible.
Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, UT Chandigarh congratulated everyone associated with this initiative and encouraged everyone for taking this smart move towards making Chandigarh a Cashless city.
The Chandigarh Smart City card is a personalized card with the details of the customer and his photograph. All the Adhaar card holders can get this card through E-KYC at Sampark center and the online portal designed by the Bank of India. The customers can use the card for Government Utility payments, Retail merchants, Government taxes and Challans, E- Mandi, Rent Collection, liquor shops, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking for Inter and Intra city buses, fuel stations. The limit of this pre paid card is Rs. 50,000, which is as per the guidelines of RBI. Users will be able to know about all the transactions made through the card via SMS alerts which is again an another important feature.
 
Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T , Chandigarh said, ” this is yet another big day in the history of the city beautiful. I am glad that we have launched Country’s first Smart City card in Chandigarh, which will eventually benefit the entire nation”. The Administrator expressed his happiness and congratulated all the members concerned for the big achievement. 
 
The residents can apply for the Chandigarh Smart City card through their Aadhar card. The card will cost Rs. 500 to the customer, which will have Rs. 350 as usable value and Rs. 150 as card value which is non refundable. The card can be reloaded through cash mode from any Sampark Kendra or online through debit card, internet banking or UPI-BHIM applications.
 
Addressing the gathering Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator congratulated the team on the launch of the card. He further stated and explained to the gathering that the consumers can load the card upto Rs. 50,000. He said that upto Rs 2000 transactions will be without OTP which will be at the flexibility of the user to load and use the card. Any transaction of more amount will require an OTP. He further stated that this card will also act as an identity card as the parents can give it to their children for their usage.
 
The merchant discount ratio proposed is the lowest across the world. The proposed MDR on Chandigarh smart city card is 0.25-0.50% for all transactions.
 
The soft launch of the smart city card with be done on 25th December 2017, Good Governance Day, whereas the registrations of the one of its kind smart city card will start from tomorrow in all the Bank of India branches and from 15th December in the work centers.
