Three-day Hemantotsav at Tagore Theatre inaugrated.

 

Chandigarh-8 Dec,Pracheen Kala Kendra needs no introduction as it is the foremost organization dedicated to promote, preserve and disseminate Indian Classical Music and Dance. Kendra  organizes various festivals throughout the year in  various parts of the country. Now onset of winters  , Kendra is  organizing a Three day Hemantotosav  opened to a serene and grandiose start with a scintillating performances by Kolkata based renowned Vocalist  Piu Mukherjee, Banaras based Tabla Player Pravin Uddhav and  young & dynamic duo by Kathakali exponent Prabal Gupta and Odissi Dance exponent Arnab Bandyopadyay at Tagore Theatre  at 6:00 pm onwards. The three  day festival of Music and Dance   aimed at propagating  the young talent of classical performing arts of India under the series “Legends of tomorrow” and of course a warm welcome to cool winters.

Piu Mukherjee  opened up the performance with Rag “Puriya Kalyan” . After a reposeful aalap Piu  presented bandish “Balam more”  in vilambat ek taal. Then she went on to doled out another traditional bandish “karo na manmani” set to teen taal in drut laya before she presented  Tappa in Mishra kafi set to bols “miyan nazare nai aunda” . She concluded with Dadra and with  her sweet and tempting voice she amidst thunderous applause.

 

After her melodic recital , Dr. Pravin Uddhav took the centre stage and  commenced with Rag Jog Kauns along with his son Shrutisheel Uddhav. He presented many traditional Bandishes of famous Gharanas.  He presented Kayda. Ladi . rela and palta amidst thunderous applause. He concluded with drut teen taal. He was well accompanied by Pt. Keshav  Talegaonkar on Harmonium and Gati Krishan  Nayak on Vocal.

 

Laslty  there is stunning jugalbandi of Kathakali & Odissi dance by Prabal  Gupta & Arnab Bandyopadhyay. They presented a dance ballet “ ” When Parallels Meet” – a confluence of Kathakali and Odissi. The production portrays an episode from Mahabharata about the love life of Arjuna – The Pandava Prince and the Princess of Manipur – Chitrangada.  The whole production is beautifully  potrayed and presented and received by audience very well. Choreography done by Prabal and Arnab .  character cast – Arjuna in Odissi by Arnab Bandopadhyay, Chitrangada  in Kathakali Stree vesham by Prabal Gupta

 

Dr. Shobha Koser along with Secretary Shri Sajal Koser honored the artists. Eminent Vocalist D. Mohan Darekar and Music Ensemble by Pt. Chetan Joshi , Debasish Adhikary, Mannai A. Kanan & Vidushi Shyamala Bhaskar will perform tomorrow as revealed by Secretary Shri Sajal Koser.
