Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department has prepared an Action Plan of Rs. 22 crore for promoting Climate Smart Agriculture in the State.
Chandigarh, Nov 5 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department has prepared an Action Plan of Rs. 22 crore for promoting Climate Smart Agriculture in the State.
While stating this here today, Principal Secretary of the Department, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi said for this Action Plan, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) would provide funds out of the ‘National Adoption Fund for Climate Change’ under the Union Ministry of Environment. The key strategy of the entire Action Plan is community mobilization, technology intervention, use of ICT for information dissemination along with provision of high quality agriculture inputs in 100 selected Climate Smart Villages in the State.
Director of the Department, Mr. D.K. Behera, said that steps were being taken by the Department for making the farmers aware of the Climate Smart practices for adoption and mitigation through community mobilization and extension activity. He said that the Department was making available crop residue management implements to the farmers on subsidy and also on hiring through establishment of Custom Hiring Centers (CHCs).
He said that the combined harvester with super SMS along with Happy Seeder has been identified as the most cost effective implement for crop residue management. Scientific data and field experiments has proved that the productivity of wheat has increased significantly after use of this technology which has the backing of scientists in the field of agriculture technology.
Mr. Behera said that the Department was actively promoting such technologies in the State to stop crop residue burning. Efforts would be made to equip the farmers with the latest information on weather by establishing automated weather stations throughout the State which is the key for preventive action and adoptive strategy for loss of crop on account of localized weather risks, he added.
