The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Sh. V.P Singh Badnore today inaugurated the 9th Chandigarh National Crafts Mela at Kalagram.

Chandigarh 2nd October 2017: The Governor of Punjab and Administrator,
UT, Sh. V.P Singh Badnore today inaugurated the 9th Chandigarh National
Crafts Mela at Kalagram. The occasion was graced with the presence of Sh.
Anurag Agarwal, IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Sh.
Jitender Yadav, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation & Director Cultural
Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, Smt. Navjot Kaur, Director Public
Relations & CGM CITCO along with other senior officials of the Chandigarh
Administration.
The craft mela began with the beats of the theme of this year ‘Dadra and Nagar
Haveli’, which brings into focus the rare folk arts and crafts and adorable folk
traditions of regions of the country. The Governor of Punjab and Administrator,
UT, took a round of the mela and witnessed the inaugural ceremony graced by
the folk dances from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Gujrat and Maharastra. Sh. V.P
Singh Badnore appreciated the spectacular cultural performances by the various
states and applauded the students participating in the drawing competition.
NZCC has constructed as many as 160 ethnic stalls, out of which 12 stalls have
been earmarked for artisan and craftsmen from U.T. Chandigarh and 3 stalls
have been especially allotted for artisans from Dadra and Nagar Haveli which
have been made from bamboos/ballies, hessian cloth, thatch. The second day of
the 9th Chandigarh National Crafts Mela will witness Qawali Muqabala
(competition) by Chanchal Bharti & Group from Delhi. The Mela will continue
till 12th November 2017.
