Karnal will host the grand opening ceremony of ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ on September 24
Chandigarh, Sept 11- Karnal will host the grand opening ceremony of ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ on September 24, in which 10,000 people including sports persons will participate, whereas the closing ceremony will be organised at Hisar on October 28. This event is an integral part of Swarna Jayanti Celebrations in Haryana. Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal will be the chief guest on the occasion.
This was disclosed during a meeting with Coordination Committee which was presided over by Chief Secretary, Mr D.S. Dhesi here today.
District-level Sports Competitions would be held from September 26 to October 3 and State-level Sports Competitions would be held from October 5 to October 26.
In order to encourage maximum participation of people from rural and urban areas, State-level Sports Competitions will be organised in multiple categories which will also include children under 14 years age group, elderly above 60 years age group and Specially-abled athletes. Under sub-category, separate competitions of males and females will be organised.
Competition in 22 sports disciplines including archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, netball, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu will be organized in this event. Also, two local regional popular sports Circle Kabaddi and Tug of War are included to encourage local public participation.
In District-level Sports Competitions, eight block level teams will participate and the winning teams will participate in the State-level Sports Competitions.
During this sports event, civil service tournament and police tournament will also be organised and State-level competitions will be organised in every district, which will continue for two to three days. All Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Panches and Sarpanches of all districts will be invited in this event.
