kharif procurement season, commencing October 1, 2017, elaborate arrangements for the procurement of paddy are being made.
Chandigarh, Sept 7–The Haryana Government is making elaborate arrangements for the procurement of paddy at the minimum support price (MSP) during the ensuring kharif procurement season, commencing October 1, 2017.
As many as 192 mandis or purchase centres are being set up all over the state to mop up 50 lakh tonnes of paddy expected to arrive in the mandis during the kharif procurement season 2017-18. Sufficient quantity of gunny bags has already been arranged.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and state agencies would procure common paddy at MSP of Rs 1,550 per quintal and Grade A at MSP of Rs 1,590 per quintal fixed by the Central Government. The state government has also decided to procure Bajra at MSP of Rs 1,425 per quintal by setting up 28 purchase centres from October 1 to November 15, 2017.
The arrangements for smooth procurement of paddy were reviewed at a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar. The Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mr Karan Dev Kamboj was also present.
The Agriculture Minister directed the officers to make all arrangements much before the start of the procurement season like allocation of mandis and release of paddy procurement and milling policy. He also directed the heads of procurement agencies to make available adequate number of ultra-modern digital moisture meters in the mandis to facilitate the farmers.
The Additional Chief Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mr S.S. Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, Cooperation, Mrs Navraj Sandhu, Chief Administrator, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Mr Mandeep Singh Brar, and other senior officers of the state government were also present at the meeting.
