Chandigarh, May 10 – Keeping in view the prevailing heat wave, the Haryana Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Dr. Banwari Lal has directed the officers to provide drinking water to areas with shortage of water through water tankers, repair tubewells of water works and to ensure storage of raw water in adequate quantity in canal-based water works.
Dr. Banwari Lal was presiding over a review meeting of the Department. Additional Chief Secretary of the Department, Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal was also present in the meeting.
It was informed that earlier, issues were being faced in storage of raw water in districts Rohtak and Bhiwani. The Minister directed the officers to ensure sufficient supply of raw water through Bhalot Sub Branch. The Engineer-in-Chief of the Department would coordinate with his counterpart in Irrigation and Water Services Department so that there may not be any shortage of drinking water, especially in districts Rohtak and Bhiwani.
It was informed that two weeks ago, a special closure was taken on Narwana Branch for its special repair but it is now working properly. The Minister directed to take up issues related to supply of electricity with officers of Power Department and get them resolved.
The Department would evolve foolproof and transparent system of water supply through water tankers, wherever required, in case of failure of normal system of water supply, to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the public as well as misuse of such system.
The Minister was informed that water was being supplied through water tankers in those areas of district Nuh where there was shortage of drinking water in May. The Minister directed the officers to visit and inspect the areas where water was being supplied through water tankers. Drinking water is also being supplied to districts Palwal, Rewari, Mahendragarh and some villages of Nidana and Uchana of district Jind.
Dr. Banwari Lal said that leakage in pipelines in rural and urban areas should be checked and immediate steps should be taken to fix them. Apart from this, a team of Saksham Yuva, Block Resource Coordinators and Junior Engineer should be constituted in every district to carry out patrolling of villages and make people aware about wastage and misuse of precious drinking water at the cost of deficient supply to their neighbours.
The Minister also stressed that appropriate dose of disinfectants must be ensured in the drinking water supplies to avoid outbreak of water-borne diseases.
