Chandigarh, Apr 24 – Haryana Government has notified the Haryana Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2017 and the Haryana Municipal (Amendment) Act, 2017, under which every contesting candidate or his election agent would lodge account of expenditure with the Deputy Commissioner or an officer authorised by the State Election Commission within 30 days from the date of declaration of election result.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that as per the amendment, if the State Election Commission is satisfied that a person has failed to lodge an account of election expenses within the time and manner, as prescribed by the Commission and has no reason or justification thereof, the Commission would, by order published in the Official Gazette, declare him to be disqualified for contesting an election for five years from the date of the order.
He said that the Commission may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, remove or reduce the period of disqualification.
