Suger mills would produce about 39 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 385 lakh quintals of sugarcane during current crushing season

Chandigarh, Mar 31 – All the cooperative sugar mills in Haryana are expected to achieve more than ten per cent recovery of sugar during the current crushing season, as compared to previous season. These mills would produce about 39 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 385 lakh quintals of sugarcane during current crushing season as against 325 lakh quintals of sugarcane crushed during last season.
This was revealed in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Cooperation, Mr. Manish Kumar Grover to review the performance of sugar mills.
It was decided in the meeting that all sugar mills would again get survey of standing sugarcane crop in their respective areas to assess the availability of sugarcane for crushing. After assessment, if quantity of sugarcane is found to be in excess, it would be allocated to another sugar mill haveing shortage of sugarcane.
The Minister also directed that all the sugar mills in the state, would make concerted efforts to crush sugarcane available in their respective areas within the month of April so that farmers may not face any inconvenience in supply of sugarcane and loss in sugar recovery could be avoided. This would also save financial loss to the sugarmills.
While reviewing the issue of arrears of sugarcane growers, the Minister thanked the Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal for providing financial assistance of Rs 175 crore to sugar mills, which would be utilised to make timely payment to farmers. Besides, the Minister also directed that all sugar mills would pay the arrears to farmers on priority basis by utilising their own resources.
The Minister also directed that all sugar mills would terminate the current crushing season only after crushing all sugarcane available in their area so that farmers might not face any problem.
