12 teams would participate in the Pandit Deen Dayal Updhyay Memorial All India National Style Kabaddi Championship

Chandigarh, Feb 6 – As many as 12 teams would participate in the Pandit Deen Dayal Updhyay Memorial All India National Style Kabaddi Championship to be organised at Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, district Sonepat from February 9 to 11.The highest ever cash awards of Rs one crore, Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh would be given away to the teams bagging the first three positions respectively.
While stating this today, Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mr. Anil Vij, said that the teams included best eight teams of the latest Senior National Kabaddi Championships and best four teams of the latest professional National Kabaddi Championships.
He said that the teams would be divided into four pools comprising three teams each. While Pool A includes Services, Tamil Nadu and Mahindra and Mahindra teams, Pool B includes the teams representing Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Similarly, Pool C comprises Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Air India teams and Pool D includes Railways, Uttarakhand and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
He said that only those athletes who weigh 85 kgs or less would be eligible to participate in the competition. The rules of Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) would applicable and the competition would be organised on mats. The competition would be conducted on League and Knockout basis.
He said that cash awards would not be given away to athletes who test positive for doping, and in case two or more players of a team test positive for doping, the team would not be given cash award respectively.
Mr. Vij said that the championship would be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Vijay Goel, whereas Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, would grace the closing ceremony. Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki would be the chief guest on February 10. The semi-final and final matches would be held on February 11, he added.
