Government procurement agencies in Haryana have procured three crore metric tonnes (MT) of paddy.

Chandigarh, Oct 16 – Government procurement agencies in Haryana have so far procured three crore metric tonnes (MT) of paddy out of the total arrival in the mandis of the State.
This was stated by Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar, who visited Anaj Mandi in Jhajjar today to take stock of the ongoing procurement process and the amenities being provided to the farmers and traders.
Highlighting the farmer-friendly policy adopted by the State Government, he directed the officers concerned to provide more facilities to the farmers and traders in the mandi. He also heard the grievances of farmers and ahrtiyas and directed the officers concerned to redress their grievances immediately.
He said that Haryana had recorded bumper yield of bajra, and with estimated yield of about seven lakh quintal. Besides, it is expected that five crore MT paddy has been produced in the State this year. He assured that every grain of paddy would be procured by the State Government.
He said that rules had been framed for procurement of bajra as some persons were bringing cheap bajra from other states and selling it in the mandis of Haryana where more remunerative prices were being offered.
He said that the State Government had taken several initiatives for the welfare of farmers, including procurement of bajra, moong dal, sunflower and PUSA-1509 variety of paddy by government agencies for the first time in the State. Apart from this, norms had been relaxed to allow procurement of paddy with moisture content up to 22 per cent, he added.
