Celebrate the ongoing 67th Van Mahotsava like a festival- Rao Narbir Singh.
Chandigarh, July 20- Haryana Forest Minister, Rao Narbir Singh has urged the people to celebrate the ongoing 67th Van Mahotsava like a festival. The month long Van Mahotsava had started on July 15 and would conclude on August 15. He said that every citizen should plant at least two saplings to lessen the effect of climate change.
In a statement issued here today, Rao Narbir Singh said that as
the concluding day of Van Mahotsava coincides with Independence Day , August 15, a special plantation drive would be launched along with flag hoisting programme in schools, colleges, universities and other such institutions. The students would also be apprised about significance of trees.
He said that in order to conserve our forests, it is important to celebrate such functions. This year, a state level Van Mahotsava function was celebrated at village Budhpur in district Rewari and about five lakh saplings were distributed in the entire state the same day. About two crore saplings would be distributed during this year. He said that efforts should be made to ensure that the planted saplings survive.
He said that panchayats, departments, institutions and social organisations should come forward to support the Forest Department in planting saplings on vacant lands of government, panchayats and others. Many places have been identified for plantation, which would increase the forest area and number of trees. He said that this year, a decision has been taken to plant saplings on vacant land of railway and on the both sides of national highways.
He also appealed to the people to plant saplings on special occasions like birthday, marriage, anniversary, festivals or any achievement. He said that people should take up tree plantation with a missionary zeal.
