Trees will be planted along the National Highways passing through Haryana

Chandigarh, July 1 – Trees will be planted along the National Highways passing through Haryana as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect has been signed between Haryana Forest Department and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in the presence of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Mr Nitin Gadkari and Haryana Forest and Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister Rao Narbir Singh in New Delhi today.
Under this MoU, the areas along the National Highway No. 10 from New Delhi border to Dabwali and National Highway No. 52 from Kaithal to Rajasthan border would be developed as green area. Shady fruit trees will be planted along these national highways and Haryana Forest Department would take care of these plants for next five years.
Haryana Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. Amarinder Kaur signed the MoU on behalf of Haryana Government and Chief General Manager, NHAI Mr M.K. Jain signed on behalf of the NHAI.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Nitin Gadkari said that National Green Highways Mission had been launched so as to promote greenery on National Highways. Under this, shady fruit trees along 1500 kilometre long National Highways passing through various states would be covered in the first phase. While appreciating the Haryana state, he said that State Government has shown personal interest and had decided to bear all kind of expenses towards environment conservation. He said that in Haryana, a road length of 415 kilometre has been included in the first phase. He also suggested the State Government to prepare a scheme for beautification and greenery along the Eastern and Western Peripheral Roads passing outside Delhi.
Giving consent to the suggestion of Union Minister, Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh said that State Government would consider to start work on this scheme. He said that earlier also Haryana had signed MoU with Railways for enhancing green cover.
On this occasion, the Union Minister also launched Green Highways Mobile Application and Green Highways Vision Document. He also honoured winners of Green Highways Painting Competition.
