Chandigarh, 20th May, 2016: 49 new Midi Non-AC buses of CTU were flagged off today by Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Chandigarh in the presence of Councilors of Municipal Corporation, Officers of Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and staff of CTU at Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Sector 43, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has purchased 49 Nos. Midi Buses to strengthen the CTU fleet as well as to strengthen the city bus services. With the addition of these buses, the total fleet strength will goes up from 482 to 531. The Buses have been purchased keeping in view the increase congestion of traffic and to meet the increasing demand for Public Transport. These buses are being deployed on the routes which are passing through interna.l roads of the sectors to decongest the traffic and on routes which were closed earlier and there is public demand to open those route such as Route No.19A (Manimajra Town to ISBT-43), 28C (Maloya to Mansa Devi), 32A (Palsora to Mansa Devi), 32 (ISBT, Sector-17 to Dera Bassi), 28/28A (ISBT, Sector-43 to ISBT-43 via Dhanas, Sarangpur), 30B (ISBT, Sector-43 to Sector-4 Panchkula), 2F ( PGI to Sector-20 Panchkula), 211 (PGI to Cantonment). Besides, the service of following routes will be strengthened by adding more buses:-
1. Route No.22 (ISBT, Sector-43 to IT Park)
2. Route No.241 (ISBT-43 to Mansa Devi)
3. Route No.242 (PGI to Landran)
4. Route No.39 (PGI to Mohali, Phase –XI)
5. Route No.5A/5C (Ram Darbar to Ram Darbar)
These buses are fitted with electronics gadgets i.e. GPS, CCTV, Vehicle Health Monitoring parameters, Speed limiting device, front and rear side LED destination boards, Electro pneumatically controlled passenger doors etc. These gadgets shall help in automatic vehicle location and enhanced security feature by CCTV. There is passenger information display penal as well as announcement system for facilitation of public. There is a space for wheel chair, anchor arrangement in the buses and greater gangway width for ease of standing passengers.
