Launch of Malaria Elimination Programme
Chandigarh, 16th May, 2016: On the guidelines of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, Chandigarh Administration Health Department launched State Malaria Elimination Programme today at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. The programme was inaugurated by H. E. Professor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Punjab, Haryana and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh by sounding a bell .
Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS Adviser to Administrator was the guest of Honour on this occasion. Other dignitaries like Sh. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secretary cum Health Secretary, Sh. A. K Sood, Mayor, Sh. B. Purushtha, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Dr. Avdesh Kumar Additional Director NVBDCP, MOHFW, New Delhi and Dr Vanita Gupta, Director Health & Family Welfare were also present at the event.
The main goal of this programme is to eliminate malaria (zero indigenous cases) by 2020 to maintain malaria free status and prevent re – introduction of Malaria in Chandigarh.
H.E. in his address said that over the past decade or so, we have seen huge successes in the fight against malaria, but we must not lose sight of the challenges ahead. We should strengthen our health systems and our ability to reach those people at the greatest risk of malaria. We should use the tools we have more effectively. He also stressed on the need to implement the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” as cleanliness everywhere will reduce mosquitoes & diseases. He congratulated Chandigarh for being the first state in the country to launch the Malaria elimination programme.
A book titled as “Comprehensive Strategic Framework for Malaria Elimination in Chandigarh 2016”and a comic titled “Chickoo & Malaira” jointly prepared by Dr. Gaurav Aggarwal and Dr. Richa Dewan was also inaugurated by the chief guest.
