Students receive diplomas at Pracheen Kala Kendra’s 7th convocation .
Chandigarh, May 15
As many as 95 meritorious and successful students of Classical Music (Vocal & Instrumental), Classical Dances and Fine Arts (Painting) of Northern region comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and UT Chandigarh were conferred upon diplomas of Bhaskar and Visharad final at the Pracheen Kala Kendra convocation held here today at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector-16, Chandigarh. The function was split into two parts – convocation and musical programme.
Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh Gill, Director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Kalagram, Manimajra, Chandigarh gave away diplomas to the students and Dr. Jagmohan Sharma, Associate Professor (Music), Government college of Education, Patiala delivered the keynote address. The convocation was began with a brief introduction of Pracheen Kala Kendra and its multifarious activities in the realm of classical arts followed by traditional lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by the Secretary of the organization Sh. Sajal Koser.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh Gill in his address lauded the efforts of the Kendra in upholding the tradition of classical arts and imparting quality education and training to over 3.19, 331 lakh students spread all over the country and abroad. Dr. Jagmohan Sharma delivered the keynote address and said that young learners of music should follow the path of hard work and dedication to attain perfection. He said the field of classical arts is vast and receiving a diploma is not an end but the beginning of a long journey. He urged the students to put the knowledge and skill acquired by them under guru-shishya parampara for the propagation and promotion of Indian art and culture. Dr. Shobha Koser, Registrar of the Kendra proposed the vote of thanks.
As per its tradition, the Kendra, besides awarding the certificates of Bhaskar and Visharad, will also honour eminent persons from field of Music Art and Culture for their invaluable contribution in their respective fields of specialization. They will be honoured with a cash award of Rs. 11,000/-, a shawl, a citation and a scroll of honour. This year Kendra felicitated its one of the old associate and centre suprintendent Sh. Om Prakash for his tremendous contribution in the field of music and his contribution towards fulfillment of one of the aims and objects of the Kendra.
After the successful completion of the convocation , second part of the event – was musical programme studded with performances of Instrumental classical, percussion music and classical dance by meritorious candidates of Visharad and Bhaskar. The programme began with Vocal Recital by the Visharad student Alisha begin with Raag Madhuwanti . This was followed by Tabla recital of the Visharad student Satpinder Singh. cast a magical spell with uthan, peshkar, kayade, palte, paran and rela etc. Another performance of Tabla was given by Gurpreet Singh Chopra. The musical programme concluded with Visharad Student Mekha Suresh’s Bharatnatyam Dance. She got audience applause by presented pure traditional Bharatnatyam dance. She captivate the audience with her graceful movements.
