Tributes paid to Major Amit Deswal.
Chandigarh, April 15- Martyr Major Amit Deswal of Surheti Village in
Jhajjar district, who was killed in an encounter with the militants in
Manipur, was cremated with full military and state honours in Jhajjar,
today.
Maj Deswal died in a gun battle with the Zeliangrong United
Front militants in the densely forested Nungba area during a combing
operation undertaken jointly by the Rashtriya Rifles and Special
Forces personnel.
The officer is survived by his wife and three-year-old son Arjun. His
father was Subedar Major in the Army, mother is a housewife, and
younger brother is working in a Reliance company in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Those present to pay tributes and lay wreaths on the mortal remains of
martyr Deswal, included Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar, former Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh
Hooda, MLA Bahadurgarh, Mr Naresh Kaushik, MLA Jhajjar, Mrs Geeta
Bhukal, MLA Beri, Dr Raghubir Singh Kadiyan, Director General of
Police Dr K.P. Singh, Inspector General of Police, Rohtak Range, Mr
Sanjay Kumar, Superintendant of Police, Mr Jashandeep Singh Randhawa,
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jhajjar, Mr Pardeep Dagar, Sub
