Sitar and Kathak Dance casts a magical spell on concluding day of 46th Pracheen Kala Kendra Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan at Tagore Theatre

Sammelan witnessed a scintillating Sitar recital by young maestro
Harvinder Sharma and a dazzling Kathak dance performance by Purva & her Troupe at the Tagore Theatre here today. The musical bonanza went on to a majestic melodic experience after the Chief Guest Mrs. Bhawana Garg, IAS, Special Secretary, Finance adjoined by Kendra Chairman S.K. Monga IAS (Retd.), Dr. Shobha Koser, Registrar, Pracheen Kala Kendra and Sh. Sajal Koser, Secretary lighted the traditional lamp.

The acclaimed Sitar maestro Harvinder Sharma of Imdadkhani ghrana and the most accomplished music virtuoso from Panchkula Haryana opened up the programme with a scintillating Sitar recital. Harvinder Sharma unfolded the popular raga Mishra Kafi through an alaap, jod alaap and Jod jhalla and formed the raga form. The audience was thrilled to relish the recital as he doled out gat with bandish “Aaj khelun Sham sang hori” . He embellished by Tabla maestro Ustad Rafiuddin Sabri. Harvinder concluded the recital with a captivating composition Range sari in Rag Pahari.

The renowned Kathak Danseuse & choreographer Purva & her troupe took the centre stage to present Ram Stuti in Rag Sham kalyan, “Rakho Sharan Mohe Ram” after this spiritual performance Purva’s troupe presented Shudh Kathak Dance Gat, Nikas Thaat, aamad, uthaan, paran, chakradar paran, upaj so on were presented with captivating and graceful movements and fine footwork followed by Solo Kathak dance by Purva. Purva & Kunal beautifully danced Thumri with bols “Sawan bito jaye” displaying her command over abhinaya aspect of Kathak amidst thunderous applause. Tarana was the next rendering by the troupe of Purva. Purva concluded her recital with fusion casts a magical spell.

She was well accompanied by Mohan Sahil on Vocal and Jayant Patnaik on Tabla, Mohd Zaheer on Tabla, Prakash on flute.

Chief Guest Mrs. Bhawana Garg along with Mr. S.K. Monga Chairman of Pracheen Kala Kendra, Dr. Shobha Koser, Registrar, and Sh. Sajal Koser, Secretary, honored the artists. This is all for this year and music lovers of Chandigarh are already looking forward to the next one.
