Chandigarh, March 11–Providing a major relief to the farmers whose cotton crop was damaged due to the Whitefly and Leaf Curl virus attack during the Kharif-2015 season, the Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, today announced compensation of over Rs 967 crore to make good their losses.
He said that Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, had given approval for distribution of the compensation amount of Rs 967,01,29,000 among the affected farmers of five districts through RTGS/NEFT system from March 12, 2016 onwards.
The Revenue Minister said that compensation amounting to Rs 320,58,13,500 and Rs 229,51,61,500 would be distributed in the districts of Sirsa and Hisar, respectively. Similarly, compensation amounting to Rs 144,92,98,500, Rs 140,21,64,000 and Rs 131,76,91,500 would be distributed in the districts of Jind, Fatehabad and Bhiwani, respectively.
The compensation amount would be given on the basis of the rates prescribed by the Haryana Government, which were higher than those prescribed by the Union Government.
Capt Abhimanyu said that state government had always supported the farmers during natural calamities. It conducted girdawari and distributed compensation amount of Rs 1,092 crore among the farmers whose crops had been damaged due to natural calamities last year, in record time.
