Chandigarh, February 10 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has given approval to impose fine and other actions to be taken against overloaded vehicles as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, 1988. Also, Chief Minister has directed to set up weigh bridges at entry points in the State on the pattern of Gujarat so as to effectively curb the menace of overloading of vehicles.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that a decision to this effect has been taken in view of the directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety for curbing the menace of overloading.
He said that in case of overload up to 50 per cent of Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), fine would be imposed as per Section 194 of MV Act and there would be endorsement of overload on Permit as per Section 114 of the MV Act. The vehicle would not be allowed to move ahead unless excess load is removed. There is also provision of suspension and possession of driving license for the period of three months. Similarly, in case of overload above 50 per cent of GVW, besides these conditions, the period of suspension of driving license would be up to six months. FIR would be lodged under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. Also, registration certificate would be suspended under Section 53 for one month.
