Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance to the family of martyr Rocky
Chandigarh Septmber 29: Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal handed over a cheque of Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance to the family of martyr Rocky here today.
Martyr Rocky’s father Mr Pritpal and mother Mrs Angrejo Devi received the cheque from the Chief Minister. Rocky’s brother Rohit Kumar, sister Ms Neha and other family members were also present on this occasion.
Born on September 15, 1990, Rocky, a resident of village Ramgarh Majra, Bilaspur, in district Yamunanagar, joined the Border Security Force in the year 2012 and was serving in the 59th Battalion. He attained martyrdom during an encounter with militant at Simroli, 17 kilometers from Udhampur on August 5, 2015.
Mr Manohar Lal said that though today Rocky is not with us, the State Government would extend every possible support and cooperation to the martyr’s family. He also assured government job to one member of the family on the basis of eligibility.
The Chief Minister had visited Ramgarh Majra, the native village of martyr Rocky, on August 12, 2015, and participated in the Rasam Kriya. While paying tributes to Rocky, he had announced to give financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the martyr and government job for one member of the family.
The family members of martyr Rocky thanked the Chief Minister for the financial assistance and said that they have full faith in the State government.
The State Government has increased the amount of ex-gratia and compensation being given to the family of soldiers from the State who gets killed or disabled in terrorist-related activities. The amount of compensation on getting injured in a terrorist attack during war or any other incident has been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs 15 lakh depending upon the percentage of disability.
Similarly, ex-gratia amount given for death during war has been increased from Rs two lakh to Rs 20 lakh. In case of death or disability during IED blast, the amount of compensation has been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs 15 lakh on the basis of percentage of disability. Those officers of the armed forces who have been awarded Sena Medal for distinguished services and devotion to duty prior to March 31, 2008 and February 19, 2014 were given cash amount of Rs 34,000 and Rs 3,500 as annuity whereas, those who got this award after February 19, 2014 were given a lump sum amount of Rs 1.75 lakh as award money. The present State government has also increased the financial assistance being given to ESM Pre-Independence Era from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,500 from September 22, 2015.
