Chandigarh, August 28 – Extending greetings to the people of Haryana on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan here today, Haryana Governor Professor Kaptan Singh Solanki and Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal said that the auspicious festival was a celebration of the special bond between brothers and sisters.
The Governor expressed the hope that the festival would foster an atmosphere of security, peace, love and fraternity.
In a message issued here, the Chief Minister said that on Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie rakhis on their brothers’ wrists and ask for the promise of protection from all evils. On this occasion, the Haryana Government has given a unique gift to the women in the State by establishing women police stations in every district. Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has also appealed to brothers to gift policies under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Bima Suraksha Scheme to their sisters on this auspicious occasion, he added.
Mr Manohar Lal said that festivals like Raksha Bandhan were a symbol of ancient traditions. “Such festivals inspire us to shun social evils and work towards strengthening our social fabric,” he said, while appealing to people to maintain the purity of this festival.
