College student killed as car hits scooter in Sec 43

A 20-year-old student of a private college was killed after the scooter he was driving was hit by a recklessly driven Honda car near his house in Sector 43 this morning.
According to the police, the victim, Satwinder Singh, a second-year student of Bachelor of Pharmacy, was going to get milk from the market when the car hit the scooter following which he fell on the road and received a head injury.
Sources said the Honda driver fled after dropping the victim at the gate of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.
“The driver fled from the hospital gate, claiming that he will return after parking the car at the hospital,” said Harnek Singh, a relative of the victim.
Police officials said the victim was declared brought dead at the hospital.
The victim is survived by his parents, an elder sister and a younger brother.
Aman, the victim’s younger brother, said he had gone to the school and on returning he was informed that his brother had died in a road accident. “He was supposed to go to the college after returning from the market,” Aman said.
The police said the registration number of the car was noted down by eyewitnesses, through which the car owner was identified as Sidharth Dhir, a resident of Sector 43.
The autopsy was conducted after which the body was handed over to the family members. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against the Honda driver. The driver was arrested and later released on bail.
